The Essence of Business

About 2.  That's how many times a day I hear someone say, "Corporations have too much power."  That is not necessarily true.  But I'm not going to get into my beliefs about that.  Let me explain something to all you "Big Business Haters" out there.  A corporation is just a group of people who provide a service to society for as long as society continues to provide for the business.  It's called the free market.  If you are angry about certain conglomerates having a bunch of influence or do not like the way it's run, the easiest way to alleviate the problem is to drive them out of business by either creating a better product for cheaper or simply by not providing enough capital to the business for it to succeed.  For instance, if GE wants to continue to exist, it must provide a quality product that people buy.  If no one buys it, GE will cease to exist.  It is as simple as that.  If you complain that big business is bad but still use all of their products, you have no room to complain and you're just being a hypocrite.  I promise you that if there is not enough capital coming in, the business will go out of business.  That's the way it works.  Or at least in America anyway, since we are not socialist and businesses are not controlled by the government.  There are no free government bailouts of large companies as there are banks, if the government does bailout a company, the company is required, in principle, to repay those funds.  That's not necessarily how it actually works unfortunately.  When the government doesn't require some company to return payment, for instance General Motors, then that is an instance of the government having too much power and when that situation happens, the party in office now has voters forever.  Some say that big businesses have control of the government but what the case, in my opinion, is that large businesses and the government are completely autonomous of each other until the government decides to be involved and in that case, the government controls the businesses which is in no way ideal towards the free market and its prosperity.  That's a bit to much like socialism and I'm not a fan of that.  But anyway, that's my two cents about business.

Suit up.
